Deloitte Names Tantalus One of Canada’s Leading GreenTech Companies

Vancouver, BC – October 1, 2009 – Deloitte has named Tantalus Systems Corp. one of Canada’s leading green technology companies. Tantalus, which develops Smart Grid communication networks used by electric, water and gas utilities, was recognized for developing innovative and economically viable intellectual property in the burgeoning field of green technology.

The Deloitte Technology Green 15™ Awards program honors companies which offer technology solutions that deliver a significant environmental impact and demonstrate a compelling return on investment for their customers. In delivering these benefits, companies like Tantalus help position Canada as a global leader in the development of commercially-viable green technology.

The Tantalus Utility Network – TUNet® – is a two-way, near real-time data communications network that enables a utility to precisely monitor energy consumption and power quality, instantly pinpoint outages and energy losses, and remotely manage meters and other utility apparatus. Utilities use Tantalus to automate practices and processes that once sapped time, money and resources, and to stabilize fluctuating demand on an aging and over-burdened grid. Furthermore, Tantalus delivers the data that enables consumers to make informed decisions on when they purchase energy so they can play an active role in conservation.

“The electricity system is one of the most complex systems on earth,” said Eric Murray, President & CEO of Tantalus. “It is essential that we manage energy resources intelligently. In the near future, all North American utilities will be adopting Smart Grid technologies. The more visionary utilities will use the opportunity to create a system that achieves operational and economic benefits, as well as positively influences the way consumers use and value energy.”

“Recognition by Deloitte as one of Canada’s leading developers of green technology validates the vision of the company and the tremendous commitment of our staff and our investors,” Murray added. “We share this honor with our utility customers who have worked with us to shape the design and capabilities of TUNet, and who have deployed Tantalus technology in some of North America’s most challenging operating environments. Our customers are on the front lines of the energy revolution, and are leading the way in implementing innovative, progressive and thoroughly practical energy conservation initiatives.”
