Four Additional Utilities Recognized at Tantalus Users Conference 2021

BURNABY, BC – December 21, 2021 – Smart grid technology leader Tantalus Systems (TSX: GRID) announced Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) as the winner of the Community Strong Award for 2021 for their “GIG CITY Michigan” project. The award, which was presented during Tantalus’ annual users conference, recognizes a member of the Tantalus user community that supports programs that make its community a better place to live for its customers.

CBPU GigCBPU became one of the first municipal-owned and operated utilities to engineer and construct its own hybrid fiber coaxial cable communications network in 1997. In 2020, construction began on an upgrade of that network through an active ethernet fiber-to-the-premise project. To date, six nodes are online and 250+ locations have been connected. There are two public WIFI access spots with near gig speeds and five community webcams that improve the quality of life for citizens and CBPU’s customers. The fiber-to-the-premise project also improves internal technologies and reliability for CBPU and the city.“Tantalus takes great pride in working alongside public power and electric cooperative utilities to not only improve the efficiency and reliability of their distribution grids, but also transform their communities,” said Peter Londa, President & CEO of Tantalus. “It’s a privilege to recognize members of our user community that are going above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities in helping their communities and we salute their continued efforts.”

Four additional utilities were recognized for their Community Strong submissions. Tantalus congratulates these utilities for their achievements and efforts to inspire others:

Appalachian Electric Cooperative – Project “Let’s CHAT” documents the history of landmarks, culture and unique stories of residents of East Tennessee.

La Plata Electric Association – The Power of Giving program invites members of La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) to purchase a “gift” of electricity from a power giving tree. Powering it forward.

Springfield City Water, Light & Power (CWLP) – Helping Homes provides qualifying low-income electric customers the opportunity to reduce energy costs through installing energy-saving retrofits to their homes at no cost to the customer. Also recognized was CWLP’s utility relief program supporting small businesses and low-income customers experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19.

Whitewater Valley Rural Electric Membership Corporation – Shedding Light on Hunger program – members donate canned food items in exchange for LED lightbulbs. The cans are then donated to local foodbanks.

Tantalus’ 2021 annual users conference brought together over 400 industry experts, utility thought-leaders and participants from the public power and electric cooperative utility landscape for three days of collaboration, training and networking in an effort to maximize smart grid investments being made by utilities.
