Engineering and Operations

Join the Engineering and Operations track designed for utility professionals deploying, managing, and supporting Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, including AMI and meter supervisors and technicians, member services staff, and billing coordinators. Explore the latest approaches to optimize network performance, resolve metering issues, and use AMI data to strengthen utility operations. Sessions will cover:

  • Practical, field-tested strategies for AMI installation, maintenance, and optimization, including tools, diagnostic techniques, and workflows – to boost the performance of their TRUConnect deployment.
  • Gain insight into how the TRUConnect solution works and where the AMI data originates – enabling participants to improve billing processes and provide proactive customer/member service.
  • Learn to strengthen collaboration between engineering, operations, IT, and member services to drive results customer satisfaction.
  • Case studies showcase solutions for real-world issues and third-party software integrations, including data management, outage response, and billing system coordination to maximize return on investment.

This track provides the opportunity to network with peers, learn from utility leaders, and walk away with actionable tactics for maximizing your AMI investment and operational excellence.

Join utility professionals in the Grid Modernization track designed for SCADA technicians, load/demand management specialists, substation managers, and electric operations / engineering leaders. This track focuses on how modern technology helps utilities balance supply and demand, secure data across devices, and integrate automation from substations to grid edge devices.

Explore how peers are deploying data-centric control systems, optimizing SCADA and load management, enhancing substation automation, leveraging fiber networks, and implementing solutions to future-proofing utility operations. Sessions feature case studies, technical demos, and collaborative discussions focused on operations, engineering, and communications best practices. Key areas covered:

  • System control and SCADA integration—manage grid data and automate control across platforms
  • Load and demand management strategies—balance supply and demand using modern analytics, device connectivity, and grid-edge solutions.
  • Substation automation and reliability—panel discussions and technical sessions to reduce outages and improve resilience.
  • Fiber network deployments and challenges—practical sessions for leveraging fiber networks to support modern substation and grid operations.
  • Leadership in operations and engineering —case studies and forums to plan, deploy, and lead modernization initiatives.

This track equips attendees with actionable tactics, peer knowledge, and platform-specific strategies to lead and sustain the next era of grid modernization—from the substation to the edge of the grid.

Explore the intersection of cybersecurity, data strategy and analytics to future-proof utility operations and address real-world risks. The Security and Data Management track gives software developers, IT teams, GIS planners, and SCADA supervisors tools for managing the full data lifecycle, detecting threats, ensuring compliance, and integrating security throughout utility data flows. Plus practical guidance on data from endpoint data collection, access control, system health monitoring, and secure design at every stage of your utilities infrastructure.

  • Discover how centralized data platforms and standardized models using TRUSync streamlines collaboration among technical teams. Gather data from any device using any protocol to a single, secure data repository that can be accessed by multiple back-office systems including SCADA, OMS and ADMS.
  • Leverage AI enabled data analytics to protect utility assets such as Transformers and provide actionable insights that will help identify areas of weakness in your distribution system to proactively avoid service disruptions.
  • Help craft proactive cyber security incident response plans that go beyond detection; embracing training, automation, and transparent governance for rapid, coordinated action.

Attendees will gain actionable knowledge to deploy resilient systems, maintain compliance, and manage data integrity—arming their utility against modern cyber threats and enabling secure, data-driven innovation across every layer of the utility enterprise.

Tantalus Academy is a hands-on learning track that helps utility professionals get more value from their Tantalus investment, faster. Building on the structure and intent of Tantalus University, this track brings together focused sessions that translate real-world utility challenges into practical skills using Tantalus solutions to solve real operational challenges.

Designed for cross-functional utility teams, the Academy supports AMI administrators, engineering and operations staff, IT, and customer service professionals who rely on Tantalus systems.

  • Learn to use the DT-400 for deploying TRUSense and for using TRUGrid Analytics.
  • Learn about the deployment and maintenance of TRUConnect (formerly TUNet).
  • Explore scenarios that mirror day-to-day utility operations, including outage management support, power quality investigations, and customer inquiry resolution.
  • Practice troubleshooting and review best practices that enhance network performance and operational decision making.

This track emphasizes applied learning so participants leave with specific workflows, configuration ideas, and use cases they can bring back to their utilities. 6 x Tantalus Academy sessions will be offered as pre-conference training the afternoon of Tuesday, May 12th and repeated concurrently with the Wednesday/Thursday breakout sessions.

The Executive Track is a closed-door, invitation-only forum for CEOs, GMs, superintendents, and senior executives to engage directly with Tantalus’ leadership around strategy, risk, and long-term value creation. It provides an update on Tantalus’ business, progress on key objectives, and major product and platform milestones, while offering space to address the most pressing industry issues facing public power and cooperatives.

Designed as an interactive, candid environment, the track enables executive leaders an opportunity to pressure-test assumptions, share lessons learned, and help shape Tantalus’ roadmap and partnership model. Sessions will explore how utilities can navigate an aging grid, regulatory and cybersecurity pressures, decarbonization mandates, and rising expectations from boards, policymakers, and members.

Attendees will participate in facilitated discussions, peer roundtables, and Q&A with Tantalus’ executive team to gain actionable insight into forward-looking trends and concrete strategies to position their utility for the future. This track also creates a unique opportunity for decision-makers to network with peers, provide direct feedback to Tantalus, and collaborate on data-driven grid modernization and utility performance improvements.
