Smart grid veteran and former EVP and General Manager of BPL Global, Ltd. joins leading public power Smart Grid firm
Raleigh, NC – July 15, 2014 – Tantalus, a leading provider of Smart Grid communications and applications, today announced that it has appointed Dermot O’Leary as Chief Operating Officer. O’Leary joins Tantalus in this key position as the company continues to ramp up for growth and delivery of its newly enhanced communications platform, TUNet®.
“Tantalus is strategically positioned for significant growth,” stated Peter Londa, President and CEO for Tantalus. “Dermot is joining the team at a time where thoughtful planning and implementation are necessary to fully leverage the developmental and operational capabilities of our team. His wealth of knowledge and experience in the smart grid industry will serve as an incredible asset to the company while also maximizing value for our shareholders.”
Dermot O’Leary is a 35 year veteran of the utility industry, with expertise in all aspects of strategic planning, product development, manufacturing and supply chain processes, customer deployments, business development, contracting, and international business. He most recently served as Executive Vice President and General Manager for the substation group at BPL Global after Serveron, a venture capital-funded start-up that provides smart utility asset and transformer monitoring, was acquired by BPL Global (BPLG) in 2007. Prior to that, Dermot spent the majority of his career in a number of international executive leadership positions within Schlumberger in roles such as VP and GM of Schlumberger RMS U.K. and Southern Africa, Managing Director of Schlumberger M&S South Africa, and VP-Sales of Schlumberger Industries North America. Dermot also served as VP and GM of Cellnet where he was responsible for the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) business unit. This group provided AMR communication networks and data management services to major U.S. utility clients including Ameren, We Energies, Jacksonville Electric Authority, and Puget Sound Energy.
“I am thrilled to join the dynamic team at Tantalus,” said O’Leary. “Tantalus is one of the few smart grid companies solely dedicated to supporting municipal and cooperative utilities, which represent a critical segment of the United States utility and power market. Since the development of significant enhancements to the TUNet platform in 2013, along with the delivery of multiple new backwards-compatible products, TUNet has been widely and successfully deployed to new customers over the past twelve months. This momentum, coupled with over a decade of success in deploying TUNet across North and South America, is exciting, and I look forward to ensuring that the team and company have the necessary processes and resources in place to continue to deliver the most cutting edge smart grid solutions in this space.”
At Tantalus, Dermot will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations by planning, prioritizing, and directing resources to enhance both internal and customer-facing operational processes. He will be charged with promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement while maximizing the value of the company for shareholders.
